Russian companies developing seven oil fields in Iran, says NIOC CEO

SHANA (Tehran) – Some Russian companies are developing seven oil fields in Iran, said the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) managing director.

Mohsen Khojastehmehr made the statement on the sidelines of the signing ceremony of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between NIOC and the Presidential Department of Science, Technology and Knowledge-Based Economy on setting up a strategic artificial center (AI) center and digital oil and gas fields and also a contract on mastering the technology for drilling long multilateral horizontal wells by using homegrown rotary steerable systems (RSS).

Iranian companies are rendering a major part of technical and engineering services needed for developing the seven fields, he mentioned.

Based on a law requiring the taking of maximum advantage of domestic expertise, the NIOC CEO continued, Iranian companies are offering their services and working with their Russian counterparts to develop the oil fields in southern and northwestern Iran.
