Oil, gas industry has ‘considerable’ potential for Iran-China cooperation: Mokhber

SHANA (Tehran) – Iran’s first vice president said on Monday oil and gas industry has a “considerable” potential for Tehran-Beijing cooperation.

Addressing the 2023 Iran-China High-Level Business Forum on the sidelines of the Sixth China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai, Mohmmad Mokhber called for Beijing to encourage big Chinese companies to participate and invest in Iran’s oil and gas projects.

Elaborating on bilateral and multilateral cooperation, the top official pointed to investment in oil fields, development of gas fields, Iran-Pakistan-China participation in Iran-Pakistan (IP) gas pipeline project, Iran-Turkmenistan-China participation in swapping the Turkmen gas to Iran’s Makran coasts, the Iranian project for constructing natural gas complexes and paving the way for importing liquefied natural gas (LNG), and Chinese companies’ investment in Iran’s petrochemical industry.

The first vice president said Iran has high capabilities for exporting technical and engineering services and cooperating in the fields of new technologies and co-investment.

Given the launch of the Center for Developing Exports of Knowledge-Based Products in China in 2014, trade sessions between Iranian and Chinese knowledge-based companies are deemed necessary, he concluded.
