Iran can turn into region’s energy hub, says MP

SHANA (Tehran) – Iran can turn into the main energy hub in the region, said a member of Parliament on Monday.

Speaking to SHANA, Seyyed Mousa Mousavi, added the increase in oil exports, the expansion of relations with neighboring states, and the promotion of energy and economic diplomacy promise a bright future for the country.

He pointed to Iranian Oil Minister Javad Owji’s recent visit to Russia, expressing hope the 13th administration’s energy diplomacy would promote the country’s economic position in the world.

Iran and Russia are faced with brutal sanctions and their cooperation in the energy sector could be useful for both countries, he continued.

Iran has joint sea and land borders with countries that are in dire need of oil, gasoline, and other oil products, said the member of the Parliament’s Energy Committee, adding, “This is a golden opportunity to take and give a crushing response to the sanctions.”

Iranian Oil Minister Javad Owji paid a two-day visit to Moscow at the invitation of Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak to participate in the 6th Russian Energy Week International Forum, which ended Friday.

The minister said Tehran-Moscow cooperation paves the way for progress of not only the two countries, but also regional states.

“I am convinced if all of us make greater efforts, the pace of cooperation will be quickened. It is no exaggeration to say that unfair sanctions against Iran and Russia have caused the two countries to make progress in many areas,” he added.

Owji continued, “We consider sanctions as a big and historic opportunity to get closer in all dimensions. We have to seize these opportunities and create a new order in economic interactions.”
