Iran-Saudi détente a positive step in increasing cooperation: Analyst

SHANA (Tehran) – An expert in international relations has described the rapprochement between Iran and Saudi Arabia as a positive step toward promoting cooperation.

Sabah Zanganeh said the two countries need to take other strides to broaden and strengthen their cooperation at all levels.

Tehran-Riyadh ties will lead to establishment of security and further joint investment in the Middle East region, stated the analyst, adding economic cooperation demands proper grounds and no economic development occurs unless trust between the two nations is built.

Zanganeh attaches great significance to Iran and Saudi Arabia’s participation in each other’s oil, gas, and petrochemical projects, added the two countries can have cooperation in these fields for a long time.

Shifting to oil and gas fields shared by Iran and Saudi Arabia, he mentioned the two nations need to agree on integrated development and exploitation of joint fields.

Following intensive negotiations hosted by China, Iran and Saudi Arabia clinched a deal on March 10 to resume diplomatic relations after seven years of estrangement.
