MP: Iran-Saudi détente to have positive impacts on energy sector

SHANA (Tehran) – The recent agreement between Iran and Saudi Arabia on resumption of diplomatic relations will have positive impacts on energy, economic, and political sectors of West Asia, particularly the Persian Gulf region, said an Iranian lawmaker here on Thursday.

Talking to Shana, Mohammad-Reza Tajeddini, a member of the Iranian Parliament’s Plan and Budget Committee, emphasized that the unity between Iran and Saudi Arabia, as the two regional powers, will bring about significant effects on the economic sector and will make breakthroughs for the forex market.

“The Iran-Saudi rapprochement has infuriated the U.S., as the thaw has foiled its plot against security of the region, in particular the Islamic Republic of Iran,” noted the lawmaker.

Ali Karimi Firouzjaei, also a parliamentarian, said the diplomatic agreement has made Tehran-Riyadh and regional states’ political landscape promising and will be undoubtedly the basis for their international ties.

The expansion of their multilateral cooperation will lead to strategic developments in different areas, including economic and energy sectors, said the MP, adding the Parliament will support the government’s policy on promoting cooperation with neighboring states.
