Minister: Abadan petro-refinery with 210,000 bpd production capacity to come on stream within days

SHANA (Tehran) – A petro-refinery in Abadan, southwestern Iran, having a production capacity of 210,000 barrels per day (bpd) will become operational within days, said Oil Minister Javad Owji here on Wednesday.

The minister added Abadan Refinery’s gasoline and gas oil production will rise to 14 million liters and 18 million liters per day respectively when the petro-refinery starts work.

Talking to reporters, Owji said some 1.1 billion dollars were spent for the new project, explaining that the petro-refinery would produce about 210 barrels of light and heavy crude oil.

According to him, the petro-refinery is located at Phase 2 of Abadan Refinery and had made a 64 percent progress when the Raeisi administration took office.

In addition to production of gasoline and gas oil, Owji continued, the petro-refinery will supply petrochemical plants with their needed feedstocks.

He also referred to the recent inauguration of South Pars Phase 14 refinery that has increased the country’s gas refining capacity by 50 million cubic meters.

Concluding his remarks, the minister said 31 semifinished projects valued at 12 billion dollars have been completed and inaugurated since the incumbent administration took office.
