3%, Share of Knowledge-Based Economy in GDP

TEHRAN (Shana) -- The Deputy Head of Technology of the Oil and Gas Park said: “Until the past few years, the gross domestic product from the knowledge-based sector was a small figure of about one-tenth to two-tenths of a percent, but in the past few years, this issue has become more serious and has accounted for a larger share of the gross domestic product. Recent figures indicate a three percent share of the knowledge-based economy in the GDP.”

Referring to the activities of the oil and gas technology and innovation park in cooperation with knowledge-based companies active in the oil industry, Mohammad Saber Karambeigi told Shana: “In a recent visit of a delegation from the Ministry of Petroleum to Russia, we signed a gas contract with the Russian Technopolis Park and one of the oil holdings in Uzbekistan.”

He added: “In the domestic field, we have signed memorandums of understanding in the field of knowledge-based development the leading companies that operate in the oil industry, such as Iranian Offshore Oil Company (IOOC) and Iranian Central Oil Fields Company (ICOF), Arvandan Oil and Gas Company, Khazar Oil Company, as well as PetroIran Company and some educational and research institutions that are in charge of special affairs, such as the Nano Technologies Development Headquarters, the National Research Institute of Genetics, the Petroleum University of Technology, and the Iran Oil Industry Equipment Manufacturers Association,.”

Explaining the necessity of signing these knowledge-based contracts, the deputy head of the Oil and Gas Technology and Innovation Park stated: “One of the components of the knowledge-based economy of any country is to identify and expand the network of its stakeholders and actors. All the memorandums are signed with the aim of networking and developing the ecosystem of innovation and technology of the oil industry. One of the most important tasks of the parks is networking, and we will act as a proper communication bridge in the field of creating this network by communicating between the oil industry and national knowledge-based societies. This powerful network will be able to solve the problems of the country's oil industry and have a great impact on its modernization and growth in the future.”
