Arash Field Not to Be Developed before Iran-Kuwait Border Demarcation: FM Spokesman

TEHRAN (Shana) -- The spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said: "There are undetermined borders between Iran and Kuwait that should be demarcated. The Islamic Republic of Iran has stated that there should be no exploitation in Arash Field before the demarcation."

Saeed Khatibzadeh told a press conference on Monday that South Korea has a definite debt from the sale of oil and gas condensate; the country has not taken effective action to repay the amount. “This is a bilateral matter and must be resolved within a bilateral framework, and media speculation is not confirmed.”

Regarding Iran's actions in response to the agreement between Kuwait and Saudi Arabia on the Arash oil and gas field, he added: "The Ministry of Petroleum, as a specialized authority, has announced that this oil field is joint."

A spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated: "There are undetermined borders between us and Kuwait that need to be demarcated. Iran has stated that the field should not be exploited before demarcation of the borders. We has sent a note to Kuwait that Iranian rights are protected and the field should be jointly exploited, and Kuwait has announced its preparedness in this regard.”
