Sarakhs to Become Middle East Sulfur Hub

TEHRAN (Shana) -- The head of Shahid Hasheminejad Gas Refining Company announced that 100% of domestic power has been used in the construction of Sardar Soleimani sulfur plant.

In an interview with Shana, Yahya Faizi, referring to the opening of two plants in the sulfur complex of Sardar Soleimani in the presence of President Seyed Ibrahim Raisi and Iranian Minister of Petroleum Javad Owji, said: “Shahid Hasheminejad Gas Refining Company produces a maximum of 2,000 tons of sulfur per day. The company had previously faced the problem of storing 2.5 million tons of sulfur, which caused safety and environmental problems, and the company at that time had to transport its sulfur in raw form to Bandar Abbas and from there to India and China.”

He continued: "Now, using the power of knowledge-based companies and private sector investment, this sulfur has been delivered to four private sector factories in molten form and is converted to granulated sulfur with a value added of $15, bentonite fertilizer with three times value added and micronized sulfur with eight times value added."

The head of Shahid Hasheminejad Gas Refining Company stated that implementation of this project, in addition to using 100% domestic equipment, has created direct employment for 150 people in the deprived and border area of Sarakhs.

He noted that with the completion of several projects, Sarakhs will become a sulfur hub in the Middle East.
