TEHRAN – Gavoshan reservoir dam in Kamyaran region of Kordestan province was inaugurated today with a phone message by President Mohammad Khatami.
The president as to attend the inaugural ceremony, which was held in presence of Energy Minister Habibollah Bitaraf and Asadollah Razani, governor general of Kordestan, but foul weather precluded presidents visit to the dams location.
In his phone message, Khatami promised people of Kordestan and Kermanshah provinces to pay another visit to their provinces for inauguration of other projects.
The dam is to supply 395 million cu. m. water to irrigate 31,000 hectares lands, generate 11 MW of electricity and supply 63 million cu. m. potable water to Kermanshah city.
The project will increase earning of regional farmers between 4.5-5 times per unit area and will improve economic situation of those farmers.
Gavoshan dam is a reservoir dam, which can hold 550 million cu. m. water and enjoys a water transfer tunnel 20 km long as well as a drainage network whose canals are 500 km long and can handle 317 million cu. m. water per year.
The dam is 136 m from foundation to top and its crown length is 647 m long.
Gavoshan dam has been built over Gaveh Roud River, 45 km south of Sanandaj and 90 km north of Kermanshah.
