Addressing the opening ceremony of the 14th Iran Plast Exhibition on Sunday, Behzad Mohammadi said Iran currently supplied 9 million tons of polymer annually which is planned to reach 21 million tons once several petrochemical plants come on stream in the country by 2025.
He pointed to the presence of 14 knowledge-based companies in the exhibition, and added 200 businessmen from 10 countries including India, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Bosnia, Iraq, Syria, Jordan, Afghanistan, Kenya, Kurdistan region had planned to visit the Iran Plast exhibition.
Mohammadi, who is also deputy petroleum minister for petrochemical affairs, said the virtual section of the showcase would be held with 72 Iranian and two foreign companies.
The Deputy Minister of Petroleum pointed out that the total production capacity of the petrochemical industry has increased from 65.8 million tons at the beginning of the current calendar year, which began on March 21 to 80 million tons by exploiting 10 projects that were realized this year: “Currently, 40 million tons of feedstock equivalent to 900,000 barrels is consumed daily in 60 complexes of the country.”
Mohammadi stated that currently 35 million tons of final and marketable products are produced in the country, of which 72% are exported and 28% are consumed domestically, and added: “77 types of chemicals and 18 types of polymers in the form of 334 grades are produced in the country and consumed by downstream petrochemical plants.”
Noting that 9 million tons of polymers are currently being produced in the country, he said: "This number will increase to 21 million tons by 2025, taking advantage of the third-leap projects that are under way."
