Speaking on the sidelines of the 25th Iran Oil, Gas, Refining and Petrochemical Exhibition, Alireza Sadeghabadi said: "In 2017, Iran's petrol production capacity was 59 million liters per day, which in 2019 reached 107 million liters per day, and today it is 107 to 120 million liters."

He said the capacity building was made possible under the toughest sanctions by relying on domestic capabilities.

The Deputy Minister of Petroleum for Refining and Distribution further added that Iran imported an average of 17 million liters of petrol on a daily basis back in 2017 which would reach 35 to 40 ml/d the following year, had consumption and production maintained their growth levels back then.

Stating that Iran is the largest exporter of petrol in the region and currently exports direct to countries such as Afghanistan, Pakistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Iraqi Kurdistan, Sadeghabadi stressed: "In 2018 and 2019, Iran stopped being an importer of petrol and started marketing for exporting its surplus petrol output."
