CNG consumption up 14% after third-tier gasoline price adjustment

SHANA (Tehran) – Average daily CNG use has climbed to about 16.7 million cubic meters in the Iranian calendar month of Mehr (started September 23), displacing nearly 2 million liters of gasoline per day.

The managing director of the National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company (NIOPDC) announced a 14 percent rise in CNG consumption across the country following the adjustment of the third gasoline price tier. He said average daily CNG use has been trending upward and reached roughly 16.7 million cubic meters in the Iranian month of Mehr.

Keramat Veiskarami, speaking on changes in fuel consumption patterns after the third-tier gasoline price took effect, said average daily CNG consumption rose from 14.7 million cubic meters in Mordad (July 23 to August 22) to about 16.7 million cubic meters in Mehr.

Noting that daily CNG consumption grew by around 14 percent over this period, he added that the increase of 2 million cubic meters directly amounts to replacing and saving nearly 2 million liters of gasoline per day in the country's fuel cycle. He said this has a significant effect on fuel consumption management and on easing the load on the gasoline basket.
