Iran Launches 175,000-Ton Polyethylene Plant

TEHRAN (Shana) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has officially launched a major polyethylene plant in at the Miandoab Petrochemical Complex in West Azarbaijan Province, northwestern Iran.

The plant converts ethylene to higher value-added products, namely heavy polyethylene, linear and light polyethylene with annual capacity of 175,000 tons, said Behzad Mohammadi, the CEO of the National Petrochemical Company (NPC).

Bakhtar Petrochemical Company—the main shareholder of the venture—acquired the licenses from Japan's Mitsui & Co., Ltd. Company, Mohammadi said, adding that the plant will get 140,000 tons of ethylene per year via the West Ethylene Pipeline.
