Upgrading Automotive Industry to Cut Iran Petrol Consumption by 17 ml/d

TEHRAN (Shana) – Iran could save its petrol consumption by 17 million liters per day once it upgrades its automotive industry, an official said.

Amir Vakilzadeh, the CEO of the National Iranian Petroleum Products Distribution Company, said on Sunday that compared to international standards, every car in Iran consumes one liter more petrol per day which would save the county 17 ml/d by promoting engines of the cars in the country.

He emphasized that CNG accounts for 23.5 percent and LPG constitutes 1.5 percent of the automotive fuel mix in Iran, adding over 2,500 CNG stations have been built in Iran while there are 4 million dual-fuel vehicles running in the country.

On average, 20 mcm/d of CNG is being distributed in Iran currently, he said.

The official further said that only 2% of the country’s natural gas output was consumed as CNG which needed to be promoted.
