Iran to Launch Projects to Add 3 mt to Annual Propylene Output

TEHRAN (Shana) – 7 propylene production projects have been devised to add 3 million tons of propylene to Iran’s annual production capacity of the item.

According to the National Petrochemical Company (NPC), Behzad Mohammadi, the NPC CEO, said that 7 projects were being built across the country which would add 4 mt to the country’s annual output once fully operational.

In a meeting with the directors and executives of PP and PDH projects on Sunday, the official said now that propylene output of the country was on the rise, more schemes needed to be devised for diversification of the propylene production chain and its derivatives.

He said currently two refineries and 6 petrochemical plants supplied 0.9 mt of propylene in the country which was fully consumed domestically.

The 7 projects are Salman Farsi, Hirsa Polymer and Koroush (all three in Mahshahr Petrochemical Hub) and Entekhab, MehrPetro Kimia, Sazeh Sanat Azaran and Razavi Oil and Gas Project which are located in Assaluyeh, southern Iran.

Mohammadi said that the propylene industry was an attractive sector which was key in the economy and helped generate jobs in the downstream industry, voicing NPC’s support for such projects.
