Alireza Sadiqabadi, the CEO of the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company (NIORDC), speaking in a televised interview on Monday evening, said the refinery rendered Iran needless of petrol imports.
On average, Iran consumes 87 million liters per day of petrol while production of the item stands at 103 ml/d currently.
“If the refinery had not been launched, the country would need to pay a daily amount of $6.5 billion in order to import 36 ml/d of petrol,” he said.
Sadiqabadi, who is also deputy petroleum minister for refining and distribution of petroleum products, said that the facility consumed a total of 500 b/d of gas condensate which is mainly supplied from various phases of the supergiant South Pars gas field in Persian Gulf waters.
