Gov’t leads fuel consumption reform

SHANA (Tehran) — President Masoud Pezeshkian stressed the need to manage energy consumption, saying the government is leading efforts to reform consumption patterns and will spare no effort to support the production cycle.

A meeting of the Fuel Consumption Management Committee, chaired by Pezeshkian and attended by Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad and committee members, reviewed strategic reserves, fuel consumption and energy management measures in the electricity and gas sectors.

The meeting also discussed targets and policies for reducing and managing consumption and ensuring stable energy supplies for households and industrial units during the winter.

Pezeshkian called for the establishment of a task force to preserve and replenish energy reserves, including gas and electricity, saying the effort requires national determination and stronger coordination among government sectors.

He also called for greater transparency with the public about fuel and energy conditions through the media and emphasized using the capacities of neighborhoods, mosques, Friday prayer leaders and media outlets to promote more efficient consumption.

“The government is leading the process of reforming consumption patterns, and I am personally monitoring the details of this process,” Pezeshkian said.

The president added that, to improve efficiency and reduce fuel consumption, most government conference halls, swimming pools and buildings will be closed or consolidated to help overcome the crisis. The government is also working to accelerate the installation of rooftop solar panels at government facilities.

Pezeshkian said active diplomacy to secure fuel and energy supplies for production units, along with establishing alternative fuel supply routes, would help ensure energy security.

“The government will spare no effort to support the production cycle, and production units and process owners must not be harmed,” he said.

He added that if fuel deliveries are reduced in some areas, alternative fuels and heating equipment would be sent there to prevent disruptions to operations.

Household, commercial energy supply a red line

Oil Minister Paknejad said all government agencies were working to serve the public, adding that coordination had been established with the Parliament’s Energy Commission to secure and maintain equivalent fuel supplies, including gas, diesel and fuel oil.

“Maintaining energy supplies for the household and commercial sectors is a red line, and we must all be committed to ensuring it,” Paknejad said.

The meeting concluded with an emphasis on continued coordination among executive bodies, the development of new operational guidelines for fuel consumption management and energy sustainability, and regular meetings to monitor energy management and efforts to improve consumption patterns.
