Iran, Russia to Build 2 Nuclear Power Plants

TEHRAN, Aug 14 (Shana) – Iran and Russia are to set up two nuclear power plants with the capacity to generate 20,000 megawatts of electricity.

Spokesman of the Parliament National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Seyed Hossein Naqavi Hosseini said on Saturday that based on the law and Parliament approval, 20,000 megawatts of electricity should be obtained out of the nuclear power plant and for the purpose, about 10 power plants are needed.

Hosseini said the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) has prepared necessary plans for construction of the nuclear power plant and naturally, simultaneous construction of each 10 power plants will not be possible and presently construction of two power plants is on agenda.

He noted that Iran should gain the technology for construction of nuclear power plant.
