Iran Self-Sufficient in Construction of Petchem Facilities

TEHRAN, July 22 (Shana) -- Managing Director of Kavian Petrochemical Facility Ramezan Oladi said on Thursday that Iran has become self-sufficient in construction of petrochemical facilities by raising potential of its experts and technicians.

“Today, there is no longer any need to foreign companies in this connection,” said Oladi in an interview with reporters.

Oladi said phase two of Kavian Petrochemical Facility was put into operation sometimes ago. “With development of South Pars phases there is no longer any need to meeting ethane feedstock and even from 2018 there will be no feedstock shortage, rather there will be surplus.

The official said phase two of Kavian Petrochemical Facility, which is the major ethylene producer in the country and a big ethylene production facility worldwide, has now made it possible to meet feedstock of new petrochemical facilities and raise the production.

He announced that operation of the second phase of the facility will increase ethylene production level to two million tons a year.

“11 petrochemical facilities use the feedstock provided by Kavian petrochemical facility. Lorestan, Andimeshk, Mahabad, Miandoab and Ilam petrochemical facilities are the instances.”

He then said about 70 percent of equipment of the petrochemical facility is produced inside the country and only sensitive tools like rotating equipment is prepared and supplied from German Siemens Company.

The official active in the petrochemical industries said feedstock supply is not yet satisfactory and due to feedstock shortage, Kavian petrochemical facility is running to half its actual capacity and a number of petrochemical facilities like Kordestan Petrochemical facility will soon join the like in the near future.

Elsewhere in his remarks, he said following operation of new units of phases 15 and 16 and once phase 17 of South Pars is operational and phases 20 and 21 come on stream, ethane production capacity of South Pars will go up and the feedstock shortage of petrochemical facility will be removed.
