Speaking during Iran’s National Environment Week, CEO Qobad Naseri said that from the beginning of last year through mid-June this year, innovative measures, corrective actions and the commissioning of privately operated facilities enabled the collection of more than 55 million cubic feet of flare gas per day.
Including additional projects implemented in recent years, gas flaring has been reduced to less than 6%, significantly lowering environmental emissions while improving operational efficiency, he said.
Naseri emphasized that oil industry development and environmental protection must advance together. He said Marun Oil and Gas Company has carried out a range of operational and infrastructure projects aimed at reducing pollution, preventing hydrocarbon waste, improving waste management and enhancing facility safety.
The company has also recovered more than 200,000 barrels of crude oil since the beginning of last year using mobile oil treatment units and mobile oil separators, returning the volumes to production.
Naseri said environmental management efforts included the cleanup of oil-fluid disposal pits in accordance with environmental standards, minimizing the spread of oil-related contaminants around operating facilities.
In wastewater management, more than 95% of wastewater generated by crude oil desalination processes is now injected into disposal wells following the drilling of new wells, he added.
The company has also implemented a large-scale pipeline safety and modernization program. According to Naseri, 32 kilometers of pipelines were repaired, 844 defective points were corrected, more than 7,000 new supports were installed and 30 kilometers of wastewater injection pipelines were replaced and upgraded.
As part of energy-efficiency efforts, Marun replaced 109 aging vehicles with new units, reducing fuel consumption by about 20,000 liters per month while improving fleet safety and reliability.
The company also planted more than 6,000 saplings at its facilities and distributed more than 30,000 additional saplings to nearby cities and villages as part of its environmental and social responsibility programs.
Naseri said Marun will continue pursuing emissions-reduction projects, resource-efficiency measures and higher environmental standards alongside its core mission of maintaining sustainable oil production.
