Construction of Golvard Dam Starts This Year

TEHRAN – The managing director of Mazandaran and Golestan Regional Water Company announced that construction of the main part of Golvard Dam would start during the current Iranian calendar year (started March 20, 2004).

Parviz Ebrahimi added that construction of parts of irrigation and drainage network of the dam will start early this year in parallel to construction of the dam and given facilities granted by the Islamic Development Bank, the 400 km network will finish on time. He noted that the dam would irrigate 19,000 hectares land and 46 billion rials has been allocated to its construction during the current year. The Islamic Development Bank recently announced that it would extend 38.774 million euros to Golvard Dam project. Total credits needed for the dam stand at 108.569 million euros, 10 percent of which would be paid by regional farmers. Golvard Dam will supply water to 19,000 hectares land and create 6,500 jobs. It is being built over Neka Roud, 70 km from Neka city.
