Speaking at a news conference Monday, Esmail Baghaei responded to a question about Iran’s position on the United Arab Emirates’ reported withdrawal from OPEC. He said the UAE has decided to leave the organization as a member state. “This is something we have heard through the media,” he said, adding that if any country takes action as a negative or retaliatory response against the region or OPEC members, it is not constructive.
He added that the UAE’s move could be interpreted in various ways, but emphasized that Iran remains committed to its obligations as an OPEC member and believes the organization secures the interests of its members.
The spokesperson also said countries in the region have clearly seen that the US military presence does not bring security, but instead contributes to instability and division. He said Iran has consistently supported mechanisms to strengthen trust and promote collective security led by regional countries themselves, and will continue to raise this issue whenever possible.
