TEHRAN Sep 14 (Shana): The managing director of the National Iranian Southern Oil Company (NISOC), Hormoz Qalavand, says oil production from Masjed Sleiman, as the oldest oil field in Iran and the Middle East, has risen to 28 thousand barrels a day.

Dr. Qalavand said: In order to implement development plan of the field, fifteen developmental wells including 12 horizontal and 3 vertical wells were drilled and by installation of pump inside the wellbores, oil extraction from the field increased from 3 to 28 thousand barrels a day.

‘In recent 100 years about 20 percent of in place oil reserves of Masjed Solaiman oil field has been extracted’, NISOC’s managing director noted.

The executive added: given geological structure of the oil field, there is the possibility to extract another 4 to 5 percent of oil from the field by applying secondary methods including using wellbore’s pumps and desalination equipments.

Qalavand stressed that using pump as a secondary method to improve recovery rate is a new experience that could be applied for development and revival of those oil fields which their oil yielding is falling due to low level of pressure.
