Petrochemical capacities should become social capital

SHANA (Tehran) – The head of the National Petrochemical Company said public relations plays a strategic role in aligning the petrochemical industry’s capacities, adding that PR units can help transform scattered achievements into a source of hope for society and industry stakeholders.

According to the National Petrochemical Company, Hassan Abbaszadeh, CEO of the National Petrochemical Company, spoke Saturday at a ceremony marking the appointment of the company’s acting public relations director.

Abbaszadeh described public relations as a core pillar across companies and said the petrochemical sector has become more complex and diverse following the transfer of a significant share of companies to the private sector.

He said each petrochemical company carries out valuable initiatives based on its own strategy, but noted that some achievements are not communicated in a timely manner, even within the broader industry.

“In some companies, industry specialists have succeeded for the first time in manufacturing a product or producing new grades, yet delays in informing the public occur due to insufficient awareness,” he said.

Need for coherent communication

Abbaszadeh, who also serves as a deputy oil minister, stressed the need to make the best use of existing communication capacities.

He said the petrochemical industry holds major capabilities that require collection, synergy and coherent communication by PR departments.

He underscored the importance of coordination between management and public relations, saying that reflecting creative and successful initiatives can generate hope and motivation across other sectors.

“In project execution, innovative methods have been applied that can serve as models and be promoted throughout the petrochemical industry,” he said.

Abbaszadeh also pointed to the sector’s human capital, saying employees have achieved success in scientific, artistic and athletic fields.

“These capacities can be introduced and leveraged through the industry’s PR network,” he said.

 Networking among PR departments

Abbaszadeh said PR managers at petrochemical companies should strengthen networking and maintain continuous communication to facilitate information exchange and highlight successful initiatives.

He added that such a network can also play an effective role in corporate social responsibility efforts.

Abbaszadeh thanked former PR executives and Peyman Karimi, the previous acting PR director of the National Petrochemical Company.

He said a new acting PR director has assumed responsibility with the aim of strengthening industry communications and enhancing coherence in information dissemination.

Abbaszadeh wished success to Reza Mirmehrabi, the company’s new acting PR director, expressing hope that stronger communication networks will elevate the industry’s information outreach and increase its social capital.
