Unveiling of gas storage compressor symbolizes domestic capability enhancement

SHANA (Tehran) – The unveiling of a high-pressure gas storage compressor represents more than just the introduction of new technological equipment; it is a symbol of a successful model of targeted collaboration between employer, contractor, and domestic manufacturers on the path to enhancing the country's technical capabilities, said the deputy oil minister for engineering, research and technology.

Omid Shakeri spoke Tuesday at the unveiling ceremony for the high-pressure gas storage compressor. He thanked those involved in the project, especially colleagues at the National Iranian Gas Company and the MAPNA Group.

"Technically, today's achievement is at a level that leaves no room for doubt. However, the main importance of this event lies in the model of cooperation, which, through intelligent project allocation, has been able to play its real role in developing domestic capabilities," he said.

Emphasizing the success of the MAPNA Group in this cooperation, he added, "Today's experience shows how the government, through proper project definition and targeted allocation, can help enhance the country's technological capabilities. This path must be facilitated so such experiences are repeatable and we achieve higher levels of technological maturity."

The deputy minister stressed that this approach can increase incentives for investment in learning, technology development and strengthening the industry chain. He stated this is a definitive policy and an unshakable commitment of the oil ministry in the field of enhancing domestic capabilities.

Oil Minister's Emphasis on Trust in Iranian Companies

Shakeri, referencing the oil minister's emphasis on trusting Iranian companies, said, "Our duty is to remove obstacles facing domestic companies and create the necessary ground for their effective growth and more serious role in oil and gas industry projects. We are pursuing this in two specific areas: linking domestic capabilities with 'first-time production' projects, which have been a successful experience in the country, and defining and implementing technology annexes in development contracts."

He stated that even the project unveiled today is, in practice, an example of a technology annex that, through proper project definition, has led to enhanced technical capabilities.

"Fortunately, the technology annex has recently been emphasized in Economic Council approvals as a requirement for major development plans, and the oil ministry is seriously pursuing it," he noted.

The deputy oil minister emphasized that part of today's successes in the oil industry result from capable human capital from past years. However, statistics show a significant decline in applicants for basic sciences and engineering fields over the last three decades.

"If we seek to accelerate the country's development process, we must have serious planning to attract and redirect top talents to key engineering and technology fields," he added.

Shakeri concluded by expressing hope that, with the cooperation of the large oil and gas industry family, the country will see continued growth, development and the achievement of more honors.
