While emphasizing the stability of the country’s gas network, Saeid Tavakoli stressed that due to forecasts of a persistent and severe cold spell next week, operational preparedness must be maintained from today until weather conditions return to normal.
Tavakoli, speaking at the 15th Winter Fuel Coordination Meeting, noted forecasts of a cold front entering from the west and northwest of the country that is expected to last at least until Jan. 22. He said this cold spell will be much more severe than in previous years and will even affect southern provinces.
He emphasized that operational preparedness must be maintained until conditions normalize, particularly in areas that have previously experienced extreme cold or where difficult conditions are anticipated. Preparedness in these areas must be at 100 percent.
The deputy oil minister said most provinces are expected to experience subzero temperatures next week. These weather conditions, combined with an anticipated increase in gas consumption by the domestic, commercial and small-scale industrial sectors — predicted to exceed 700 million cubic meters per day — could have a significant impact on energy consumption and daily activities.
Serious Need for Periodic Monitoring and Inspections
Tavakoli requested that colleagues make every effort to ensure a stable and secure gas supply for subscribers. He noted that production stability has fortunately been very good, but this stability is particularly critical under the current conditions.
He added that this situation is not limited to just one or two days. Based on forecasts, the severe and persistent cold will not subside quickly. Therefore, all colleagues in the provinces are asked to implement the decisions issued by the central dispatch control without any hesitation or delay.
The managing director of the National Iranian Gas Company stated that due to the likelihood of persistent severe cold next week, periodic monitoring and inspections must be conducted with greater precision and seriousness, especially regarding government offices and garden-villas. In addition, public awareness efforts should be pursued with particular and serious attention.
