According to the NIGC, Saeid Tavakoli made the remarks at the 14th Winter Fuel Coordination Meeting. He said that on Jan. 13, 162.1 million cubic meters of gas were delivered to power plants, breaking another record for gas delivery to that sector multiple times in a row this year.
Tavakoli referred to the 12-day war and the gas industry’s resilience during that period, noting that while some refinery facilities were damaged, one affected unit at the Fajr Jam Gas Refinery was rebuilt in less than six months and returned to production through coordinated, technology-based management and staff efforts.
The deputy oil minister for gas affairs said that despite colder weather this year—averaging about 1 degree lower than last year since September—and an increase in household consumption of an average 23 million cubic meters per day due to 700,000 new subscribers, there were no gas outages in any sector. He called the achievement a point of pride for the company.
Call for heightened vigilance amid colder weather
Tavakoli warned of a widespread temperature drop across the country later this week and early next week, urging managing directors of provincial gas companies to remain on full alert. He emphasized intensified field inspections and stricter oversight of gas consumption at government offices, as well as heightened vigilance over household, commercial and small industrial use.
He said that from the start of the year (March 21, 2025) through Jan. 11, more than 3.2 billion cubic meters of additional gas were delivered to power plants and at least 1.5 billion cubic meters more to industries compared with the same period last year. However, he cautioned that these gains do not signal a return to normal conditions and were achieved only through staff efforts and proper consumption management.
Tavakoli also stressed the need to fully utilize Type II contractor companies, particularly in the three northern provinces, and called on other provinces to do the same. He said the goal of deploying contractor companies and energy operators is to establish an effective model for consumption management, efficiency improvement and reducing energy imbalances nationwide.
