Iran, Belarus review cooperation opportunities

SHANA (Tehran) – Iran and Belarus reviewed opportunities and capacities for cooperation in the oil sector as part of efforts to implement a bilateral memorandum of understanding.

The opportunities were discussed Tuesday in the third meeting of the Iran-Belarus oil industry working group, held virtually, aimed at following up on and implementing an oil cooperation memorandum signed between Iran’s Ministry of Petroleum and Belarus’ Belneftekhim.

The meeting referred to the recent talks between Iran’s Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad and Belarusian Industry Minister Andrei Kuznetsov on the sidelines of the 18th Iran-Belarus Joint Economic Cooperation Commission on Dec. 7, 2025, during which both sides stressed expanding cooperation, particularly in the energy sector.

Key topics included trade in petrochemical products and petroleum products, exports of catalysts to Belarus, cooperation in technical and engineering services, and the supply of equipment for the oil industry.

Both sides, citing the high level of political relations between Iran and Belarus, emphasized the need to expand cooperation, particularly through the involvement of private companies, which could lead to increased bilateral trade.

Representatives from the National Petrochemical Company, the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company, Persian Gulf Holding, Ghadir Investment Holding, Tejarat Sanat Company, the National Iranian Oil Company’s goods management division, Tabriz, Karun and Takht-e Jamshid petrochemical companies, as well as the Association of Iranian Oil Industry Equipment Manufacturers, attended the meeting alongside Belarusian counterparts and Iran’s ambassador to Minsk, Alireza Sanei.

The Iranian delegation was headed by Mostafa Barzegar, director general for Europe, the Americas and the Commonwealth of Independent States at the Ministry of Petroleum’s International Affairs and Commerce Department. The Belarusian delegation was led by Igor Fomin, head of the Foreign Trade Department at Belneftekhim.
