Iran’s gas network remains stable amid rising winter demand

SHANA (Tehran) – The national gas network is operating steadily, according to the National Iranian Gas Company.

Mohammadreza Joulaei, the company’s production coordination and oversight director, said the country’s natural gas production and supply are in good condition. Despite household and commercial consumption roughly doubling amid colder weather, the network remains stable.

Speaking during a visit to Ilam Gas Refinery, Joulaei noted that major refinery maintenance was successfully completed on Oct. 19 as scheduled. “These repairs, conducted after several years, concluded on time. All planned programs were successfully implemented, and all refineries are now fully operational,” he said.

Reassuring the public ahead of winter, Joulaei described gas production and supply as “favorable” and said there are currently no issues affecting the country’s gas availability.

He added that in recent days, following colder temperatures, household and commercial gas consumption has nearly doubled compared with the previous week. “Despite this increase, the gas network remains in a stable and satisfactory condition,” he said.

Continuous Monitoring to Ensure Stable Supply

Joulaei also reported that more gas is being stored in underground reservoirs than last year. He emphasized that the main goal of refinery measures is to ensure stable production during the cold winter months.

“Continuous monitoring of production is ongoing,” he said. “Regular meetings are being held at refineries to closely track operations, ensuring stable and uninterrupted production during this period.”

Regarding refinery capacity and gas extracted from fields, Joulaei said the company expects to inject between 850 million and 860 million cubic meters of processed gas daily into the national network.
