Malek Shariati-Niasar said diversifying the fuel mix for light vehicles is one way to enhance energy security and balance fuel consumption. He noted that the Seventh Development Plan emphasizes diversification of the country’s fuel basket, particularly in the transportation sector.
“Currently, the country relies heavily on gasoline and diesel, while other options are rarely used,” the lawmaker said. “Electrifying vehicles and turning to alternative fuels such as LPG—which we produce in surplus—are effective ways to diversify the fuel mix.”
He added that moving toward electric vehicles, LPG and CNG not only reduces reliance on gasoline but also contributes to non-military defense measures while supporting the economy. “Fortunately, the Oil Ministry is on board and supports vehicle electrification,” the MP said. “These steps mark the beginning of the right path, and we hope diversifying the transportation fuel mix will help address imbalances in supply and demand.”
