Gas extraction from SP Phase 11’s second platform set for fall 2027

SHANA (Bushehr) – The managing director of Petropars said plans are underway to begin gas production from the second platform of Phase 11 in the South Pars gas field by fall 2027.

Hamidreza Saqafi said the second jacket for Phase 11 will be installed in October, with drilling of six initial wells scheduled to begin this winter.

Speaking Sunday, at the loading ceremony of the jacket in Bushehr, Saqafi said a drilling rig will soon be deployed to start work on well A6. He noted that the 2,300-ton jacket was built entirely by Iranian specialists over 840,000 man-hours without accidents, calling it a symbol of the country’s growing expertise and technological progress.

Saqafi said this is the second jacket for Phase 11 loaded in less than a year. He added that new materials were used in its construction, making the structure more durable while reducing its weight by about 10%.

Once the second platform of Phase 11 is fully operational, Iran’s daily gas production capacity will increase by 28 million cubic meters, he said.

Coordination key to project progress

According to the Petropars chief, drilling of the six wells is expected to take 24 months to complete.

He also reported that construction of the second platform’s deck at ISOICO shipyard has reached 20% progress since the start of the 14th administration, up from zero. The deck is scheduled to be completed by fall 2027, coinciding with the completion of drilling operations and the start of gas extraction. By the end of 2029, the platform is expected to reach its full production capacity of 28 million cubic meters per day.

Saqafi stressed the need for coordination among all parties involved to ensure steady progress.
