Hassan Abbaszadeh said on Friday that the Miankaleh Petrochemical Project’s execution was initially conditional on receiving environmental permits. He noted that if approved, the plan was to proceed with developing the methanol value chain and related downstream industries using natural gas. However, the project never secured the required environmental permits, and no subsequent permits were issued.
Responding to reports of surveillance cameras and suspicious activity at the project site, Abbaszadeh added that, per the president’s directive, the provincial government will enhance oversight to prevent similar incidents.
The NPC CEO reiterated that no permit was granted for the Miankaleh project, stressing that it falls outside the company’s responsibility. If any activity is underway at the provincial level, he said, it must be investigated legally under the supervision of relevant petrochemical authorities.
Abbaszadeh confirmed receiving a written order from the president to prepare a detailed report on the matter. He said a full assessment of the project’s status will be submitted to the relevant authorities as instructed.
