Energy savings of 1.3m barrels to be achieved by 2028

SHANA (Tehran) - The CEO of the Fuel Consumption Optimization Company announced emergency and operational plans to reduce energy consumption in three sectors: industry, transportation, and construction.

The goal is to save 1.285 million barrels of crude oil equivalent by the end of the seventh development program (2028).

Hossein Hosseinzadeh stated that the company is actively working in the three main sectors of industry, transportation, and construction.
He emphasized that a short- and medium-term emergency plan has been designed, which is fully operational. The objective is to save 1.285 million barrels of crude oil equivalent by the end of the seventh development program. Importantly, this will be achieved without using any government funds, relying solely on private sector participation, including petrochemical, steel, cement, and other industry investors.
Hosseinzadeh noted that, based on current planning, the savings by the end of 2025 will be equivalent to two phases of the South Pars gas field. The program includes optimization in areas such as heating systems, rail transportation, metro wagons, greenhouses, and brick and cement factories.

Field visits for better decision-making

The CEO highlighted the importance of field visits by company employees to older facilities, such as the Pegah Dairy Factory, Tehran Refinery, and Tehran Cement Factory, to gain a better understanding of operational challenges. He said these experiences are highly impactful, helping employees make more realistic decisions.

Hosseinzadeh also mentioned the formation of the "Optimization Organization" under Article 46 of the seventh development program, which has been approved by parliament and is being fine-tuned by the government.
He stressed that the company will continue its work regardless of whether the organization is established. In the new year, upgrading the company’s capabilities is a priority to achieve its goals more effectively.

Bittersweet memories from oil industry

Reflecting on the challenges of working in the oil industry, Hosseinzadeh shared that the job is truly 24/7, with no holidays or breaks.
He recalled a colleague who had to travel from his hometown to Ahvaz and then to a drilling site in Ilam during the holidays. Although his schedule was two weeks on and two weeks off, he learned on the third day of the holiday that his child was about to be born. Such moments are difficult, as family responsibilities clash with professional duties.
In the 2000s, while working with a Chinese company, Hosseinzadeh noted that they celebrated the end of drilling with poetry and festivities, even though they knew Iranian employees couldn’t join due to the holidays. These are among the bittersweet memories of the job. During holidays, they set up the traditional Haft-Sin table and exchange greetings, but the hardships of the work remain.

Hosseinzadeh emphasized the importance of optimization, acknowledging that the oil industry and optimization efforts come with both challenges and rewards. He expressed hope that their efforts to reduce the country’s energy consumption with minimal costs and maximum participation will yield positive results.
