RIPI unveils innovative virtual sensor technology

SHANA (Tehran) – A cutting-edge virtual sensor developed by the Research Institute of Petroleum Industry (RIPI) was unveiled at the Nouri Petrochemical Complex.

Saeid Shokri, head of the Digital Transformation Center at the complex, highlighted the significance of the technology, stating that the entirely domestically developed product successfully completed pilot testing and evaluation before being implemented at the Nouri Petrochemical Complex.

Shokri explained that virtual sensors, powered by artificial intelligence, enable the prediction of key variables that are difficult and costly to measure using traditional methods or online analyzers. In addition to reducing operational costs, the technology enhances process control accuracy and boosts productivity in the oil and gas industries.

Emphasizing the institute’s commitment to developing domestic technologies, Shokri noted that the Oil Industry Research Institute is focused on smartening industrial processes to reduce reliance on imported equipment and pave the way for advanced technologies.

The use of virtual sensors, he added, will not only lower hardware costs but also improve performance in refineries and petrochemical complexes.

The unveiling ceremony took place during a visit by Hossein Afshin, Vice President for Science, Technology, and Knowledge-Based Economy, to Bushehr Province, where he toured an oil, gas, and petrochemical exhibition in Asaluyeh. Five innovative products were showcased at the Nouri Petrochemical Complex during the event.

The virtual sensor unveiling was attended by Arslan Zare, Governor General of Bushehr; Sakhavat Asadi, CEO of the Pars Special Economic Zone; Gholamreza Jamshidi, CEO of Nouri Petrochemical Company; and several officials from the RIPI. The ceremony was hosted by the Nouri Petrochemical Complex.
