Petrofarhang Holding supports domestic production, prevents millions of euros in currency outflow

SHANA (Tehran) – The CEO of Petrofarhang Holding company emphasized support for domestic producers to strengthen the country’s industrial and economic system, stating that 30 specialized process equipment units were ordered for the first time by subsidiaries of the holding, preventing tens of millions of euros from leaving the country.

Javad Zarepour noted that the holding placed orders for the production of methanol synthesis catalysts, ultra-heavy methanol reactors, heat exchangers, and secondary reformers for the first time in Iran, achieving self-sufficiency in these areas.

He said, “The belief in the capabilities of domestic engineers and experts is now institutionalized within the holding, and this will pave the way for a new outlook in the country’s petrochemical industry.”

Zarepour added that in just two projects, Dana (Phase 2 of Sabalan Petrochemical company) and Siraf Energy, 24 specialized process equipment units were ordered from domestic new technology-based firms (NTBFs) and suppliers, preventing tens of millions of euros from being spent abroad.

The CEO of Petrofarhang Holding further explained that the equipment, weighing approximately 3,500 tons, was ordered from Arak Machine Manufacturing Company. So far, 16 units have been delivered or installed, four are en route to Asaluyeh, and the production of four more units will be completed by the end of the year.

Zarepour highlighted Petrofarhang Holding’s pioneering efforts in producing national catalysts, stating that the methanol synthesis catalyst, which incurs significant foreign currency costs for each methanol production unit, was ordered domestically for the first time, achieving self-sufficiency in this product.

With 12 methanol production companies in the country (some of which will be completed in the coming years), there is now potential to prevent millions of dollars in currency outflow annually. These savings can be invested in the development of domestic knowledge-based companies, further securing the country’s industrial independence.

He also mentioned that the acetylene hydrogenation catalyst, previously imported from other countries, is now being produced domestically for the first time through a joint effort by a knowledge-based company and Morvarid Petrochemical.

This initiative aims to meet domestic needs, showcase the capabilities of Iranian producers, and prevent currency outflow. Additionally, ethylene oxide catalysts and industrial wastewater treatment packages used in Morvarid and Kimia petrochemical plants are being produced and implemented by other Iranian manufacturers, continuing the momentum toward national self-reliance.
