Extension of Iran Gas Export Deal to Iraq on Agenda

TEHRAN (Shana) -- The CEO of the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) announced the start of negotiations between Iran and Iraq regarding the continuation of gas exports to the latter.

According to NIGC, Majid Chegeni, during a televised interview, spoke about the performance of his company in the field of gas export, stating that the 13th administration since taking office, has been very active in the field energy diplomacy, especially in the field of gas.

He continued: "Our negotiations with Iraq regarding the continuation of gas exports to this country have begun, while our first export contract to Baghdad will expire next year, and the first part of the negotiations is also dedicated to this contract."

The deputy minister of petroleum for gas affairs also stated that the Iraqi side is applying for the extension of the gas export contract and Iran is positive about this.

Referring to the development of energy relations with neighboring countries, Chegeni emphasized: “Iraq needs energy, especially gas, and we are trying to meet this need by extending the contract with this country.”
