44% Drop in Petchem Emissions

TEHRAN (Shana) -- The advisor to the CEO and the head of the social responsibility secretariat of the National Petrochemical Company (NPC) announced a 44% drop in the volume of petrochemical industry pollution in Iran, adding: “The amount of petrochemical companies' pollution has decreased from 66% to less than 22% at the end of last calendar year.”

According to NPC, Ali Rabbani announced a 44% reduction in the amount of pollution in this industry, and said: “The amount of pollution from petrochemical companies has decreased from 66% to less than 22% at the end of last calendar year since 2011.”

This shows that petrochemical companies have been able to consider corporate social responsibility requirements by complying with environmental standards in addition to increasing production and efficiency, the official argued.

“It is hoped that by accelerating this process, we will reach the highest level of production with the least pollution,” he said.

Emphasizing that the petrochemical industry has been able to minimize pollution, he said: “The petrochemical industry's view of social responsibility has become completely different and efforts are being made to develop a specific strategy that is approved by the Minister of Petroleum, the Supreme Council of Social Responsibility and the Board of Directors of NPC, with the cooperation of companies, to witness a favorable balance in social, economic, environmental and employee fields.”
