Min. Stresses Need to Boost Refining Capacity

TEHRAN (Shana) -- Emphasizing the investment in the construction of refineries and petro-refineries in the country, the Iranian Minister of Petroleum said: “The refining capacity in the country should be enhanced.”

Javad Owji said on Wednesday that the refining capacity in the country must increase and for that, there is no other way than building petro-refineries.

He stated the advantage of building a petro-refining plant, in addition to providing fuel for the country, providing feedstock for petrochemical plants, and said: “Some petrochemical plants were facing shortage of feedstock last year.”

Referring to the administration’s plan to build a refinery with the capacity to refine 300,000 barrels of oil per day (martyr Qassem Soleimani) and stating that this is important in the 1401 budget, the petroleum minister added: “This refinery is located next to the Persian Gulf Star Refinery and its land has also been assigned.”

Owji mentioned the construction of heavy and ultra-heavy crude oil refinery "Morvarid Makran" with a daily production capacity of 300,000 barrels by Mofid Economic Group, and clarified: “The permission to build a number of refineries and petro-refineries with crude oil feedstock and gas condensate has also been issued.”
