According to IRNA, Saeed Khatibzadeh spoke about the new agreement struck between Saudi Arabia and Kuwait regarding the Arash gas field: "Arash/al-Dorra gas field is a joint field between Iran, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, and parts of it are within high seas located between Iran and Kuwait.”
Arash gas field is positioned on Iran-Kuwait’s water border and it is known as Dorra in the Kuwait part of the field.
The field’s gas reserve is estimated at one trillion cubic feet along with some 310 million barrels of oil.
He added: "According to international regulations and procedures, any action in the operation and development of this field must be done in coordination and cooperation of all three countries, so the recent action of Kuwait and Saudi Arabia in the form of a cooperation document, has been done contrary to current procedures and negotiations and is illegal and has no effect on the legal status of the field and is not approved by the Islamic Republic of Iran.”
The spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated: “The Islamic Republic of Iran, as it has repeatedly stated, is ready to enter into negotiations with neighboring countries, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, on how to develop this joint.”
Khatibzadeh stated: “The Islamic Republic of Iran also reserves the right to develop the Arash/al-Dorra gas field.”
