Iran President hosts Meeting with OPEC Secretary General

TEHRAN (Shana) -- Iranian President Ebrahim Raeisi received the secretary general of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), Mohammad Sanusi Barkindo, in Tehran on Friday.

According to President.ir, during the meeting, Mr. Raeisi stressed that the OPEC secretariat should consider the rights and interests of member countries as the basis for adopting all measures and implementing all mechanisms.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran, as an effective member of OPEC, emphasizes on promoting the global position of this organization and bolstering its role in managing the global energy market,” he said.

Referring to the efforts of some powers to weaken the position of OPEC, he stressed: “The OPEC Secretariat should consider the rights and interests of member states as the basis for adopting all measures and implementing mechanisms.”

Congratulating the 60th anniversary of OPEC and expressing hope that the organization would become more active and that members would be more constructive and coordinated in the future, the President said: “The OPEC Secretariat should play a more active role in creating more coordination between member and non-member countries.”

For his part, the OPEC secretary general, while presenting a report on the market situation and oil supply conditions, considered Iran as one of the founders of this organization, which has always played a key and constructive role during his tenure.

Barkindo stated: "In the coming period, we need the support and cooperation of the Islamic Republic of Iran to advance the goals of OPEC."
