Semi-Industrial MTP Unit of Mahshahr Research Center Operational

TEHRAN (Shana) -- The semi-industrial unit for production of propylene from methanol was put into operation by relying on Iranian technical savvy at the Research and Technology Center of Mahshahr, southwestern Iran.

According to the National Petrochemical Company (NPC), Deputy Minister of Petroleum for Petrochemical Affairs Behzad Mohammadi announced the operation of the semi-industrial unit for the production of propylene from methanol in Mahshahr Research and Technology Center, and said: “Parallel with the development of MTP technical knowledge, the technical knowledge to produce all the catalysts required for this unit has been acquired domestically. These catalysts are currently being exploited.”

Mr. Mohammadi, on Tuesday (September 8) during a visit to the semi-industrial MTP unit, said: “In the petrochemical industry master plan, smart development based on the development of propulsion propylene projects has been considered as one of the important chains of development, so first it is necessary to increase the production capacity of propylene and then to pursue the smart development of the industry.”

He pointed out that the semi-industrial unit for production of propylene from methanol in Mahshahr Research and Technology Center has just been put into operation and is ready to be visited by investors in the coming weeks.

The CEO of the National Petrochemical Company continued: "In the development of propylene production plants, there are no restrictions for development, both in the know-how of the process and supply of the required catalysts."

Regarding NPC’s policies and plans to increase polypropylene production capacity in the country, Mohammadi stated: "Soon, with the implementation of GTPP and MTP projects in Assaluyeh (southern Iran), Amirabad and Islamabad Gharb parks, the capacity of this important product will increase to 4 million tons per year."
