12 Downstream Petchem Projects Under way in PETZONE

TEHRAN (Shana) -- The CEO of the Petrochemical Special Economic Zone Organization (PETZONE) said that appraisal studies were being carried out for construction of 12 downstream petrochemical projects in the PETZONE.

According to National Petrochemical Company (NPC), Sayed Omid Shahidinia, Managing Director of the PETZONE in Mahshahr, southwestern Iran, voiced the organization’s support for developing downstream industries in the southwestern region.

He said investors would have various bonuses for developing petrochemical downstream industries in the special economic zone with the goal of completing the value chain, underlining the existence of favorable infrastructure and capabilities for the development of downstream petrochemical industries in the region.

“At present, 18 downstream companies are active in the region, of which 10 companies are operational and are actively producing their products,” he said.

He added that other 8 companies were building downstream projects in the area.

According to him, 12 other companies had applied for building downstream projects in Mahshahr whose applications were being considered and weighed up by the organization.

"According to the estimates, the feedstock needed by these companies is more than one million tons per year, which we hope we can work with the National Petrochemical Company to provide direct feedstock supplies to them through companies based in the region."

It is worth mentioning that rafinate, methanol, sodium hydroxide, and polymers are the main feedstock needed by these projects.
