The director of production control at the National Petrochemical Company (NPC) said the damage was caused by rainfall and flooding but was now under control.
According to NPC, Ghodratollah Farjpour said the unprecedented rainfall and flooding in recent days submerged many villages in the country, especially in the western province of Lorestan and a part of the city of Pole-dokhtar, and damaged the pipeline which carried feedstock to dozens of petrochemical plants in western Iran.
He added: "Fortunately, with regard to the existing safety systems, the leak was contained immediately.”
The official further added that once water flow decreases around leakage, expert teams were dispatched to the area to fix it as soon as possible.
