Tehran-Colombo Keen on Reviving Oil Ties

TEHRAN, July 24 (Shana) – Iranian Minister of Petroleum Bijan Zangeneh named Sri Lanka as one of Iran's good partners in the oil and petrochemical sectors, voicing Tehran's willingness to enhance ties with the south Asian country.

Speaking in a meeting with Sri Lankan Minister of Petroleum Resources Development Chandima Weerakkody in his Tehran office on Sunday, Zangeneh said Sri Lanka has always been a good partner for Iran's oil and petrochemical sectors.

He also expressed hope that the Tehran-Colombo relations that were limited by the sanctions, will be revived. 

The top Iranian energy official said that Iran and Sri Lanka, because of being located in the Indian Ocean region, are naturally linked to gather and the two can engage in cooperation in many areas.

Zangeneh also said that Weerakkody is scheduled to visit gas and petrochemical facilities in Iran's South Pars gas field. 

"South Pars is Iran's gas and petrochemical hub," he added.
