Plant Recuperating Rapidly after Massive Blaze

TEHRAN, July 12 (Shana) – Bou Ali Sina Petrochemical Plant is rapidly resuming its activities only a few days after a raging blaze gripped the facility, causing an estimated €60m in losses.

The water cooling system of Bou Ali Sina Petrochemical Plant came back online on Monday after the plant saw a devastating blaze at its paraxylene tower later last week.

Also the Central Insurance of Iran announced it would cover up to €60m of the losses.

No casualties were reported in the fire which first started on Wednesday.

After the fire was contained early on Saturday, word went out that other storage tanks at the plant are having leakages which was dismissed outright by the safety and firefighting director of the plant.

Bou Ali Sina Petrochemical Plant is affiliated with Iranian state-owned National Petrochemical Company (NPC). It is also a subsidiary of Persian Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (PGPIC).

The fire is believed to have been caused by the paraxylene, a highly flammable hydrocarbon, leakage. Fire fighters extinguished the fire the same day it started but the blaze re-erupted later in the day.

Firefighting teams from Khouzestan province as well as the neighboring provinces finally extinguished the blaze on Friday and managed to prevent it from spreading to the nearby tanks of petrochemical products.
