Iran Casts no Political View on Energy Security, Cmdr.

TEHRAN May 27(Shana)--Iran's Navy Chief Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari has said Iran does not use its exceptional status in world energy supply for political goals.

Speaking with Shana, Sayyari said Iran is located at the center of the world's richest energy region while it does not use its position for political adventures. This is while it can easily do so by relying on its military might.

"Iran's military might is high enough to ensure security and energy security of the region," said the Iranian navy commander.

He said 71% of world oil reserves as well as 65% of the world gas reserves are located in an oval where Iran is at one of its focal points giving the country an exceptional position regarding world energy supply.

The oval overs Iran, the Persian Gulf and its littoral states, parts of Iraq, Turkey, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia in the west, and parts of the Caspian Sea, Russia and the Caucasus. It also straddle parts of Uzbekistan in the east.
