According to president.ir, Pezeshkian made the remarks during a visit to the Oil Ministry's central building as part of ongoing government field inspections. He reviewed the state of the country's oil and gas industries alongside Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad and senior ministry officials.
Citing global industry practices, Pezeshkian described the collection of associated and flare gases as both a technical and economic necessity. He said optimal management and the use of modern expertise could prevent energy waste, adding that refinery efficiency improves through gas collection efforts, which he said should be pursued more aggressively.
The president called the creation of integrated communication networks and management systems in the oil and gas sector essential, while praising current monitoring efforts. He cautioned, however, that some issues may still go unnoticed despite recent progress, making it a priority for the ministry to adopt global standards, train staff in new technologies and build more effective, multilateral systems.
Pezeshkian also emphasized that innovation and technological development are key tools for competing in global markets. He said Iran's technological outlook must remain limitless to avoid stalling progress, adding that officials should first assess strengths and weaknesses before working to improve efficiency across all areas.
Turning to personnel policy, Pezeshkian said improvements in productivity, quality and performance should serve as the main criteria for allocating funding and resources. He instructed officials to send specialists abroad for training if necessary, and said pay and bonuses should be tied to efficiency, with a clear distinction made between high- and low-performing employees. Workers who perform well, he said, should be rewarded.
During the visit, Paknejad and other senior managers briefed the president on the sector's performance. At the ministry's monitoring center for oil facility operations, Pezeshkian received detailed reports on gas and oil consumption, energy management during two recent conflicts, the production-to-consumption cycle, sector-by-sector usage patterns, annual volumes of collected associated and flare gases, and data from the national projects observatory dashboard.
