Mohammad-Hassan Peyvandi said Iran is to reduce the dependence of newly-launched petrochemical plants on liquid feedstock in the near future.
He said the prioritized plans of NPC include converting 25 million tons of methanol to propylene and ethylene.
Peyvandi said Iran’s petrochemical exports have increased 6-7% year-on-year during the first eight months of the current calendar year which started in March.
“The country’s petrochemical industry, consuming 5% of liquid and gas hydrocarbons produced in the country, is producing more than 41 million tons of products valued more than $21 billion,” he said.
Peyvandi said the start-up of phases 15-18 of the supergiant South Pars gas field would lead to the operation of more petrochemical plants fed on ethylene.
