Benzene, Highly Pollutant

TEHRAN August 25 (Shana)--A senior official at Iran’s Department of the Environment has said that the highly pollutant benzene is widely used in gasoline production in Tehran.

Yousef Rashidi said pyrolytic gasoline contains 50 percent benzene which is largely present in Tehran’s air.
“Evaporation of fuel containing aromatics and benzene, combustion in vehicles and industrial processes are among ways of the penetration of benzene into city weather,” he said.
He added that evaporation from cars lacking gasoline vapor attraction system also contributes to air pollution.
